Environmentalists Target America’s AI Future

Environmental groups seek to halt data center construction in the United States, warning that data centers consume enormous quantities of electricity and water and contribute to climate change. Further, environmentalists now oppose the artificial intelligence revolution (AI), the irresistible force that is transforming the US economy.

Last [month], more than 230 environmental organizations delivered a letter to Congress requesting a “national data center moratorium.” The letter stated, “The rapid expansion of data centers across the United States, driven by the generative artificial intelligence and crypto boom, presents one of the biggest environmental and social threats of pollution, straining water resources, and rising electricity prices across the country.”
